A well-worn Stetson hat gifted by Buffalo Bill to his friend, Kirk (Curt) Alexander. The hat comes with a letter written by Cody describing the hat as one he wore the whole 1908 season of the Wild West. Alexander was a friend and a Buffalo Bill look-a-like as well as a true frontier figure on his own. This lot comes with other personal pieces from Alexander, photos of him, him and Cody, and his Wild West complimentary pass signed by Cody. Includes ephemera, including many documents, letters, receipts, etc. to and from Alexander. The letter is framed with the original envelope, addressed to Kirk Alexander - Hastings, Neb.; the letter is dated Nov. 18th / 08 and sent from Mississippi. The envelope the pass was in is addressed Kirt. Most papers and photos identify him as Curt. The sweatband of the hat is marked “John B. Stetson - Boss Raw Edge” and has the Paris 1900 Grand prize logo. As Cody says in the letter his "Old Stetson" (underlined) and "it's sure genuine". A wonderful performance-worn artifact from the Wild West. (Not all ephemera in lot shown in catalog; more images available online).
