SN 24573 . English made high grade exposed hammer side by side shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" 12 gauge shells, circa 1879. Features 30" damascus barrels marked "W & C Scott [SPECIAL GRADE] Markers & Patentees London" and proofed with Birmingham proofs, definitive black powder proof for shotguns & provisional proof for barrels, other marks include another proof with a Crown above an S and crossed scepters with obscure letter below them, a '13', a '6' and an 'F". Barrels are lightly engraved around breech and atop the smooth concave rib which also has a silver bead sight near muzzle. Case Hardened receiver fully and finely engraved in English scroll motif with dog heads on both locks. Receiver is marked with the W & C Scott mark of Castle, tower and flag inside an oval & W.C.S.S. "Patent Action" "Oct 65". Double triggers and fish head hammers. Engraved hammers, trigger guard, top lever and forend lever. Select grade checked wood forend and pistol grip buttstock with silver initial plaque and contoured metal butt plate. Matching serial numbers on lower tang, barrels, and forearm. Very little case hardened colors showing, receiver has turned to an even medium grey/brown patina. Barrels are in the white, have traces of damascus pattern and have scattered areas of dark surface rust. Wood is in very good condition with minimal dings and scratches. One firing pin has been replaced. Condition is very good as antique. ***Antique Firearm***
