Virginia Manufactory 2nd model musket a.k.a. model of 1812 pattern in original flintlock configuration (Refer Flayderman 9A-179). The musket shows iron mountings and standard length .69 caliber barrel with Richmond and 1812 on therear portion of the lock and the center portion is marked “Virginia manufactory” (Note Vir in Virgina is not legible). The metal surfaces are in fair to good condition showing a dark patina with scattered light to slightly heavy pitting anderosion with the heaviest pitting occurring at the breech end and firing areas from battle use. The touch hole has been enlarged in size and the arm is in its original flintlock configuration with correct hammer, top jaw, screws and parts. Thestock is good with some light cleaning with steel wool or possible slight sanding and is slightly down around the metal. The stock shows normal imperfections and small losses. An original to the period ramrod is included and the front sight onband was smoothed or filed down during use. The original sling swivels are retained. 60,000 of these flintlock muskets were in the Richmond Arsenal at the beginning of the Civil War and were issued to Virigina troops. Refer Flayderman 9A –
