Virginia Manufactory 2nd model, 69 caliber originally flintlock musket dated 1811 converted with bolster type conversion during Civil War and possibly for issued to Confederate troops (Refer Flayderman 10 – 060) which refers to an article on the alteration of Virginia Manufactory weapons by Giles Cromwell in “The Journal of the American Society of Arms Collectors” issue number 52 where he identifies and categorizes four contractors who converted a large number of the 60,000 flintlockmuskets that were in inventory at the Richman Arsenal in 1861 when returned from the field. This musket remains in good to very good condition showing clear lock markings and some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion with manymarks on the barrel and some small areas of heavier pitting. The stock shows losses, some light cleaning and the name R.H. Berr or Berry carved in block letters on the right side of the stock along with a small carved H behind the sideplate and some faint carvings of letters on the right side of the stock which are not quite legible. There has been some repairs and light refinishing to the wood. A period ramrod is included. Considered a primary Confederate issue
