Estimate: $1800 - 2500
This rare derringer was the first Remington handgun chambered for metallic cartridge and was produced in 1861 and 1862 with only approximately 1,000 made. The pistol is chambered for 22 caliber and has a six shot revolving barrel cluster. The barrels are cut with zigzag grooves which are part of the revolving mechanism, hence the name "Zig Zag". Each barrel has a inverted "V" rib running the length of the flute with a brass bead sight. The pistol is breech loaded through a hole in the back of the recoil shield. The ring trigger is moved forward and rearward turning the barrels and cocking the internal hammer. The right side of the frame has faint factory markings. Fitted with smooth grips.
