This is an example of a Winchester Model 1886 Sporting Rifle manufactured in 1892 in the desirable 45-90 W.C.F. caliber with the casehardened receiver, which Winchester discontinued in 1901. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech end. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" and the lower tang is marked with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates directly behind the trigger and the serial number to the rear. The barrel is equipped with a silver blade front sight, adjustable rear buckhorn sight. Full magazine tube, blue finished barrel and magazine tube with casehardened finish on the remaining parts. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain 75% original blue finish mixed with a smooth plum patina. The magazine retains 30% original blue finish mixed with smooth brownish patina. The receiver retains 60% original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer retains 70% original case colors and the lever, forend cap and buttplate have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is fine with a few gouges in the stock, a crude period "S" and "W" scratched in the right side of the stock and overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
