This Second Model revolver with a square back trigger guard was manufactured in 1851, the second year of production. The barrel has the one line New York address (re-stamped), "COLTS/PATENT" stamped on the left side of the frame, and the cylinder has the Texas/Mexican naval scene with "COLTS PATENT No 2597". The square back trigger guard has a small letter "T" stamped on the right shoulder. The serial numbers on the revolver are matching. Fitted with a smooth grip.

Condition: Fine. The revolver has a crisp, untouched mottled gray patina showing some very scattered fine pin point pitting. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. The grip straps retain 70% plus original silver plating with the exposed brass having an even aged patina. The highly figured original walnut grip is fine with edge wear, and a minor chip missing near the bottom. Mechanically fine. These squareback trigger guard Colt Model 1851 Revolvers are seldom found in this crisp original condition!
