PERCUSSION RIFLE WITH BAYONET AND SCABBARD. Cal. 58. NSN. Standard configuration of popular Civil War brass mounted rifle w/ 33" rnd. bbl. having "VP"/eagle head proofs & "1863" date on bbl. tang, two cartouches on stock "BH" (Benjamin Hannis) & "HDJ" (Henry D. Jennings) & inspector marks found on most every metal piece, bbl. inspected "RDA" (Renick K. Arnold). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: complete, original in every regard w/ fine matching bayonet & scabbard, bayonet also inspected by “BH” (Benjamin Hannis). CONDITION: fine to very fine overall. Bbl. retains over 90% original blue w/ light pitting at breech. Bore has crisp rifling w/ pitting. Lock & hammer retain approx. 50% of their muted case colors w/ balance a pitted silver/gray. Brass is smooth & very good overall w/ mixed mustard colored patina. Stock is sound & solid, sharp edges & good cartouches, scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanics are fine. Bayonet is fine overall w/ mostly bright blade w/ staining, scabbard is solid w/ most original black finish, seam unsewn & 1/2" crack. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (01-17303/JS).
