VERY EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 71 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.
Cal. 348 WCF. S# 2785. Bbl. 24". Model 71 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1936. Left side of bbl. is marked with the model designation, followed by the Winchester trademark logo, as well as the cal. designation, with Winchester's mfg. information marked on the right. Underside of receiver is marked with the S# "2785". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Checkered wood pistol grip buttstock with brown rubber pistol grip cap, flat checkered steel buttplate, and checkered wood forend. Ramped brass beaded blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. Left side of receiver has been drilled and tapped with a Weaver 1" side rail that is fitted with a Herter's 2.75x20 R-20 scope. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, scattered handling marks, as well as some scattered areas of light surface oxidation overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Upper section of buttplate exhibits oxidation. Scope retains a clear optic. (24-1151/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
