Unusual elliptical barrel blunderbuss with top mounted spring bayonet signed “Harcourt” on the lock with British proofs. The carbine measures 31” overall with 15 ¼” heavy brass barrel showing a bore of nearly 1 ¾” across its mouth. The ironsurfaces show a dark brown patina with scattered light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion of the type associated with exposure to salt air. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration with original hammer, frizzen and parts. Thesignature on the lock is hard to read and is just barely legible. The barrel shows a dark patina matching to the mounts and the stock shows some small repairs and light cleaning but we would rate at least good. An old brass tipped ramrod isincluded. The bayonet is genuine and matches the condition well and still springs but somewhat weakly but does not snap quickly and lock. Brass barreled blunderbuss are always collectible and this is extremely unusual being elliptical at themuzzle. Est.: $2750-$5500
