Unusual Colt U.S. Cavalry Model SAA revolver, .45 cal., 7-1/2” barrel, #7387 and pictured in A STUDY OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER (on page 323) by Graham, Kopec and Moore where it is noted that the frame bears no patent date nor “U.S.”stamping; overall grey patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas, traces of original case colors on the front area of the frame and on the hammer; very good bore, crisp action, sharp italicized barrel address; grips are overall good although later Cavalry vintage as the cartouche on the left side is “FH” for Capt. Frank Heath who served within the 111,000 thru 117,000 range according to a 1999 John Kopec letter that accompanies this lot. He also notesthe presence of a faint “DFC” cartouche on the right side of the grips; grips also show small old losses at both bottom front toes. Also per the Kopec letter, the revolver’s serial number (as of 1999) was not located in the National Archivesrecords available however, it was in a range associated with the 5th Cavalry, active in the Arizona Territory during the Apache Wars.
