Unusual Brevette Colt 1849 pocket model, .31 caliber percussion, 5-1/16” barrel, 9-3/4” overall, blue and case hardened finish, rolled Dragoon and Indian fighting scene, serial #6510. The barrel shows a Colt Brevette stamp which is reversed as to read from breech to muzzle or left-handed. The right side of frame shows “A” “F” and crown stamp, possibly August Francott. With Belgian proofs on rear of barrel and cylinder. The revolver shows 60-70% blue on barrel that is toning, 20% blue on cylinder, most all of its cylinder scene, and Colt’s Patent on cylinder script. The frame, hammer, and loading lever show 50-70% case hardening going to patina. The grips are good with scaling varnish of which approx. 30-40% remains. Grips show some small marks and wear at the edges. There is the number “40” stamped on left front of frame near breech of barrel. #6510 is stamped on barrel, frame, trigger guard. The number “18” is reversed on the butt near the screw. The action is good, generally good overall. An intriguing Brevette, particularly with the Colt patent and Colt brevette markings.
