This is a Third Model 1873 Rifle with an integral dust cover rail manufactured in 1888 with a special order 23 inch barrel. The included Cody Firearms Museum research request confirms the rifle configuration, caliber, plain trigger and round barrel and that the rifle was shipped on August 4, 1888 and returned to the factory on February 13, 1909. The barrel has the two line address/patent dates marking stamped ahead of the rear sight and "32 W.C.F" at the breech. Factory proof on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" and the lower tang has the serial number. The cartridge elevator is marked "32 CAL." Blade front and adjustable sporting rear sights and full length magazine. Curly maple forearm and straight grip stock with steel forend cap, cheekpiece on right side and brass crescent buttplate.

Condition: Very fine as period custom stocked. The rifle retains 80% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The barrel has a couple areas of tool-like marks. The hammer and lever retain half of the original case colors. The attractive tiger grain maple wood is fine with some chipping and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
