Unique U.S. Springfield Model 1922 M1 bolt action rifle, .22 Hornet cal., 24” barrel dated 3-30 with flaming bomb proof and with S.A. marking, blue finish, wood stock, #19497 with scope mounts. This gun is in overallvery good + condition showing the majority of its blue finish, very good bore, crisp action, right side of receiver tapped for sight mount, sharp markings, very good wood stock with checkered steel butt plate, frontbarrel band missing; bolt and chamber modified to accept this caliber that is marked on the left side of the barrel at the breech. Accompanied by an article describing the creation of this type of experimentalrifle by Captain Grove L. Watkyns, Captain G.A. Woody and Springfield Armory proof assistant, A.L. Woodworth in their development of what would become the .22 Hornet cartridge. Est.: $1,250-$2,500.
