Unique Steyr 1883 Serial Number 1 Martini Saddle Ring Carbine
The left side of the receiver is marked "STEYR * 1883", the upper front right side of the receiver and right rear of the barrel are marked "44" and crossed pennants over "2P" and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver directly ahead of the trigger guard. The carbine is chambered for an unidentified 44 bottleneck cartridge, (writer has spent time in an attempt to identify the cartridge to no avail). Shrouded front sight and folding leaf rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Saddle ring and bar mounted on the left side of the receiver. Casehardened lever and blue remaining parts. Mounted with a straight grip stock and matching full forearm with a sling swivel on the front barrel band, flat iron buttplate and sling swivel. The left side of the stock has a "STEYR * 1883" cartouche.

Condition: Excellent. The carbine retains 97% original blue finish with some thinning on the muzzle end of the barrel, high point wear on the barrel bands and receiver and some thinning to brown on the trigger guard as well as edge wear. The lever has a mottled gray patina with a small amount of light spotting. The wood is very fine with a few small gouges on the right side of the stock, overall scattered minor dents and dings and an extremely sharp cartouche. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
