Unique Commercially Configured U.S. Colt Model 1878/1902 Colt Philippine/Alaskan Double Action Revolver

This Colt 1878/1902 revolver features the distinctive oversized trigger guard, blade front sight, notch rear sight and lanyard swivel on the butt. The Army purchased 4,600 Model 1878 revolvers which were designated the Model 1902 Revolver. This particular example is from that contract, but obviously did not go to the U.S. in this configuration. (Most likely was rejected and sold commercially) The top of the 4 3/4 inch barrel (normally 6 inch) is marked with the two line Hartford address and the left side of the barrel is marked "45 COLT." The left side of the frame is marked with a circled Rampant Colt and has the inspector initials "RAC." The right side of the frame is marked "U.S.", "1902" and the inspector initials "JTT." The serial number is stamped on the butt and the partial serial number "6432" is stamped on the rear cylinder face and loading gate. The rear cylinder face is also stamped with the inspector initials "RAC." The revolver is fitted with deluxe varnish checkered walnut bird head grips.

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus original high polished blue finish showing loss at the muzzle, some high edge wear and minor thinning. The grips are also excellent with a few minor handing marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
