Unique 4-barrel flintlock rifle signed St. Etienne and dated 1775 with French proof. Fine stocked in period overlaid tortoise shell. This unique oddity measures 49”. The barrel group measures 31-3/4”. Barrels areapprox. .45 caliber rifled and are octagon shaped and medium to slightly light weight. The rifle shows two hammers mounted at center and two frizzens, and is hand revolved to engage second set of barrels. Action isnicely floral engraved as is the brass mounts and rib between the barrels. There is a ramrod which goes through the center portion of a brass keeper, mounted at the muzzle. The barrels are spaced and each has its ownfrizzen. The condition is near fine with just some slight erosion and pinprick pitting starting on the barrel. Some minor rust which may clean. The stock is in remarkably good condition for this material showing just acouple small losses at the edges, minor aging. The tortoise shell was laminated in sections, probably over a wood base. Beneath the tortoise shell is a thin gold foil to reflect the beauty of the shell. The
