Unidentified Civil War era musket with lock marked J.C. with anchor showing brass mounts and light colored wood stock in approximately .52 caliber smoothbore resembling Enfield. The musket measures 48” overall with a 32” barrel. The right side of the barrel shows brass and may have had a stud for a saber type bayonet that shows evidence of brass brazing. There is a trumpet shaped ramrod of the same era. The metal surfaces show light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion. The light colored stocks have been lightly refinished and show a large scorched area by the butt plate. The barrel is secured by two iron bands and there is the same J.C. with anchor mark on the trigger guard. An old collector listed in his notes (may be Confederate?). Est.: $800-$1,600.
