Ultra-rare Colt Model 1900, .38 ACP cal. semi-automatic pistol, commercial blue finish, hard rubber grips, factory gold inlaid "Charles A. Brand U.S.N." at rear portion of right side of slide; shipped toCharles Brand March 30, 1901, one gun in shipment with all features confirmed by factory letter. Currently, there are only two factory gold inlays on documented Model 1900s known to collectors. Lt. Charles A.Brand was the inspector who examined Model 1900 Navy contracts for the Navy at the Colt factory, and these contract pistols bear a "B" inside a triangle on the left trigger guard bow, which was his inspection mark.Charles A. Brand, U.S.N. graduated Annapolis Academy in 1885, retired 1912, and died 1913 in Connecticut. This pistol was originally in Lowell Pauli collection, who is the historian and researcher for the ColtCollectors Association. This pistol has been featured in many publications and articles, most recently in the Rampant Colt, Fall 2007, and discusses another pistol #2280 which was shipped to Salt Lake, Utah with a slide
