U.S. model 1860 cavalry saber by Ames, dated 1864, with original scabbard in near fine original condition. The blade shows most of its original bright finish, just some minor scratches, some just-starting erosion andbeginning age. The Ames marking and 1864 date are crisp. There is also a U.S. and “GKC” inspection. The guard shows some light cleaning long ago now going back to a natural patina, and some dark areas where notcleaned. The wire-wrapped leather handle is very good plus with some slight losses and minor aging. The pommel cap shows a few dings and mars, the scabbard is good to very good with some minor pitting and erosion, alsoshowing a “LHK” inspection on the drag. Est: $600 - $1,200
