Manufactured from 1836 to 1844 with a total production of about 41,000 and reportedly 3,000 with 1844 dated locks. The lock is marked "A. WATERS/MILBURY. MS./1844" in front of the hammer and the breech end of the barrel is marked "U.S./JM/P". The left rear of the barrel, the left side plate, back strap and lower tang are marked with the letter "H". There two clear oval cartouches on the left stock flat. It has a brass blade front sight and dished oval shaped rear sight on the barrel tang. The ramrod is the steel swivel type with a button shaped head. The barrel band has a strap extension which joins the side plate and the back strap is integral with the buttplate and extends up the back to the barrel tang. The lock plate, hammer and frizzen were casehardened, blue trigger and frizzen spring and all other iron parts bright. This was the last U.S. martial pistol produced in flintlock. These pistols were standard issue during the Mexican War and continued to see extensive use during the Civil War, many converted to percussion in the 1850s. Comes with a small wooden plaque with a "1836 A.H. WATERS & CO" marked brass plate.

Condition: Very good in original flintlock configuration with the metal surfaces being polished bright in appearance. The hammer screw and ramrod swivel assembly are replacement. The stock is fine with a couple of pressure dents and some minor scratches and dings. The edges of the flats are sharp. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
