U.S. WWII REMINGTON MODEL 1903 A4 BOLT ACTION
SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 4992619. Bbl. 24" 2 groove marked "RA flaming bomb 12-43" behind front sight area. Model 1903 A4 Sniper rifles are very desirable. This example has many correct features w/ the exception of the replacement commercial Model 330 Weaver telescopic sight. The pistol grip stock is the late type not to be confused w/ the earlier Type C stocks but is not technically correct for this S# range as the rifle should have been assembled w/ a "scant-grip stock". The receiver ring has correct offset markings & the correct bevel for the bolt handle on the right side behind the receiver bridge. Receiver has punch proof below S#. Receiver is assembled w/ one piece base marked "Redfield" which has the distinctive bevel at the rear. Bbl. has no appearance of a front sight being mounted. All visible parts markings including bolt are "R". Bolt handle has correct scope clearance. All stamped furniture including the large bow trigger guard & buttplate w/ fine checkering. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is late type pistol grip marked w/ boxed "FJA" & "crossed cannons" on left side over trigger guard. Faint encircled "P" proof under grip. Forend has assembly marks in front of trigger guard. Correct machined recess on right side of receiver bridge for bolt handle. Two recoil bolts. Cut off recess is unmarked. Brown leather military type sling marked "MRT 2-62". Weaver telescopic sight w/ 3/4" blued steel tube. The sight is equipped w/ truncated cone windage & elevation knobs w/ coin slotted screws & appears to be a commercial Model 330-S. The "S" stands for silent as these are not "click" adj. The scope markings which are all stamped transversely on the data plate are Model 330 / PATS. PEND. W.R. WEAVER CO. EL PASO PEX USA". Unmarked brown leather scope caps. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Original brown leather scope caps. CONDITION: stock set has well worn original finish w/ light staining & scattered handling marks throughout. 3 small notches at forward end of comb. Markings on left side have worn appearance. Notable dents on right side of mag. well, bottom left side by trigger guard & left side of forend. Metal retains 60% original wartime parkerized finish w/ thinning & light wear. Stamped parts have worn thinning blue. Scope retains 80% of original blue finish w/ thinning & scattered handling marks. Optics appear cloudy but serviceable. Very good shiny 2 grooved bore. (23-868/RW). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
