U.S. Springfield trapdoor saddle ring carbine, Model 1873 marked “trapdoor”, blue finish, wood stock, #40347. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing slight traces of original blue in protected areas of barrel with the balance of metal surfaces gone to a grey-brown patina with scattered spots of erosion; overall good bore, action and sharp markings including the “U.S. Springfield” and spread eagle on the lock plate with considerable muted original blue on that part; wood stock is good to very good overall showing some wear and scattered dings and mars from carry and storage; no visible inspector cartouches on the stock, “VP” and eagle head on the left side of the barrel at the breech and “US” stamped on the top of the steel butt plate. Accompanied by a folder with extensive notes on the different part components of this particular Springfield. Est.: $3,500-$4,500.
