U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Model 1879 rifle, .45-70 cal., 33” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood stock, #256188 in overall very good condition showing a light grey patina to barrel, blue lockplate and hammer, strong traces of case colors on trapdoor, crisp action, good markings, bore is good with some scattered pitting, very good wood stock with circle P proof and stamped “28” behind trigger guard; also partial inspector’s cartouche on left side of stock along with “Detroit Board of Commerce” cartouche on the center of the left side of the butt stock; would be interesting to research.
