This is an example of the last production Krag carbines manufactured for the U.S. Cavalry. The stock, unlike the earlier Model 1896 and Model 1898 Carbines, has no provision for a sling bar and ring and is two-inches longer. It has the 1898 style handguard and rear sight, graduated to 2,000 yards and marked with a "C" on the right side of the base. The front sight is the correct pinned blade marked with the letter "C" on the right side. The left side of the receiver is marked: "U.S. / MODEL 1899. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." followed by the serial number. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped with the boxed script initials "JSA" over "1899", and there is a circled script, "P" proofmark behind the trigger guard. The bolt assembly is fitted with a headless Model 1898 carbine cocking piece. The buttstock compartment contains two pieces of the three piece cleaning rod and an oiler.
BBL: 22 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30-40 Krag
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 230333
Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains 20% original thin blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with some strong original blue on the trigger guard and protected areas of the magazine. The wood is good with a few small gouges on the front left of the forearm, a few minor dents around the barrel band spring and overall some scattered minor dents and scratches. The markings and cartouche are clear. The action is fine.
