Serial number correctly falls into the carbine serial number range (222609-362256). The front sight is the correct pinned blade marked with the letter "C" on the right side and rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards with a "C" on the right side of the base. Left side of receiver has standard markings along with the serial number. The left side of the stock wrist has traces of a boxed script cartouche and a faint circled "P" in the grip area. The buttstock compartment contains the three piece cleaning rod and oiler. Complete with a cavalry pattern boot with straps. The boot is stamped "CAV 9" on one side and "85" and "ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL / 1905" on the over side. The 9th U.S. Cavalry was a famous African-American regiment and has a long and distinguished frontier record. With a photocopy of the 1901 dated Rules for Management manual for Model 1898 rifles and Model 1899 carbines.

Condition: Very good. The carbine retains mostly faded brown patina finish with artificial brown present at the muzzle and a smooth gray patina on the barrel band. The receiver is mostly silvered out case colors. The revarnished stock is very good with some very scattered minor handling marks. The carbine boot is very good with some minor to moderate age cracking and some areas of flaking. Mechanically fine.There is some missing stitching.
