U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle with Bayonet
Fitted with a blade front and "R" marked Buffington adjustable rear sights. The breech end is marked "V/P/ eagle/ P" on the left side, and both of the barrel bands are marked "U" on the right. Sling swivels mounted under the front barrel band and on the front of the one piece trigger guard. Casehardened low arch breechblock marked "U.S. /MODEL/ 1884", and "U.S./ SPRINGFIELD" on the lock next to the Eagle marking. One piece smooth straight grip stock with "SWP/ 1889" stamped on the left side of the wrist and "US" on the heel. With a US marked 18" socket bayonet, blue finished with a nickel sheath, leather hanger and a "US" marked brass swivel.

Condition: Very fine, with 85% of the slightly faded original blue finish, a brown patina forming on the barrel and trigger guard, scattered handling marks and edge wear. 75% case colors are visible on the breechblock, strongest on the underside, with some fading concentrated along the edges. Stock is also very fine, with scratches, and storage dings. Bayonet shows rust at the tip and overall spotting, with scratching and spotting on the sheath. Mechanically excellent.
