Third and final variation of the "Trapdoor" Cavalry Carbine. Blade front and Buffington rear sight with the upper right corner marked "C". The left rear of the barrel is stamped with "V/P/Eagle Head/P" proof marks and an "A" on top. The breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884" and the lock plate is marked with the Eagle and Shield motif followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873". Lower arch breechblock, three click tumbler and serrated trigger. Mounted with a one piece half stock with a single barrel band and front sight protector, saddle ring and bar mounted on the left side and steel buttplate marked "US" with compartment, (cleaning rod not included).

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown patina, with some muted case colors on the breechblock and flashes of thin original blue on the lock. The revarnished wood remains very good with some minor dings and handling marks. The saddle ring bar is slightly bent inward. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
