Blade front sight and ski-slope rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards and marked with an "R" on the upper left side of the blade and left side of the base. The barrel has the standard "V/P/eagle head/P" inspection marks with an "R" on the top. Low arch breechblock marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" next to an eagle with shield. Smooth straight grip stock with ramrod, 2 barrel bands, "SWP/1882" cartouche, circled script "P" in the grip area, a small "H" stamped directly behind the lower tang and smooth "US" marked buttplate. Crude period marked "R 5? Or S?" on left side of stock at the heel.

Condition: Fine. Half of the faded original blue remains with the balance of metal surfaces having a smooth brown patina. Muzzle end of barrel has some minor dings/pitting. Stock is very good with a weathered splinter extending from the front lock screw forward with a couple chips at the end of the crack, otherwise some scattered minor dents and dings. Markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
