U.S. Springfield Model 1861 percussion Rifle, .58 cal., 40” barrel, bright finish, full wood stock, lock plate dated 1861. This gun is in overall very good to fine condition showing a light grey patina with somescattered pin prick pitting and slightly more moderate pitting around the firing area, crisp action, fair bore, sharp markings, iron ramrod, V, P and eagle head proof on left side of barrel at the breech; US marked steel butt plate; wood is overall very good with traces of an inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the wrist above the trigger guard, some scattered nicks and mars including an old larger marred area on theright side of the stock; leather sling included that is in fine condition and added to this gun, marked “Watervliet Arsenal U.S.”.
