U.S. Springfield Model 1851 percussion cadet musket, .52 cal., 39-3/4” barrel, lockplate and upper barrel tang both dated 1852, sling swivels, flared iron ramrod, wood stock. This gun is in overall very good conditionshowing an even grey patina to metal surfaces with scattered pinprick pitting on the barrel, action is good, markings are good, bore is fair, wood stock is overall good with interesting period checkering panels at thebutt and at the most rear barrel band; also there is a plaque behind the upper tang with the number 30 (rack #?) and what may be a collection or museum brass ID tag on the top right side of the butt stock, #’ed 129.Reportedly, approx. 4,000 of these Cadets were produced between 1851 and 1853, almost all going to various states for their military schools.
