U.S. Springfield Model 1818 flintlock pistol, .69 cal., 10-5/8” barrel, bright finish, wood stock, early gooseneck hammer, 1818 dated lockplate and barrel, P, eagle head and V markings on left side of barrel at breech, two sharp inspector cartouches on left side of stock above trigger, flared wood ramrod; exact gun pictured as Plate G in Theodore Dexter’s 1954 Scrapbook of Rare Ancient Firearms. This big flintlock pistol that has always been considered a great prize in U.S. Martial collecting, is in overall fine condition with a bright finish, some spots of erosion near the muzzle, crisp action, sharp markings and fine wood stock; one of the best we’ve seen in a long time and with a great pedigree.
