This is an standard Model 1816, Type I, musket. It has the "eagle/US" mark in front of the hammer and "SPRING / FIELD / 1819" vertically at the tail of the lock plate. Recessed "US" and "eagle head/P" on the left rear of the barrel as well as "CP 580", (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), upside down on the left rear. Iron mountings, brass flash pan, sling swivel mounted on lug ahead of the trigger guard, integral trigger guard and plate and mounted with a full stock secured with three barrel bands and iron button head ram rod.

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a mottled silver gray patina with some scattered minor pitting. The upper tang has been welded and is a bit short. The stock is good. There is a large crude "X" carved in the left flat and a 1 1/2 inch hairline crack extending back from the right side plate. Otherwise there are some overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. Markings are readable. The action is very good.
