The U.S. Model 1795 Springfield Musket was manufactured 1813. The lock plate is marked with the script "US" over a downward arched "SPRINGFIELD" in front of the hammer and "1813" behind the hammer. This musket could have seen use in the War of 1812. The script "US" is marked on the left stock flat at an upward angle. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the "P / eagle head / V" and "U S". The buttplate tang is marked "1812". The trigger guard is the Type III with the rounded finials, flat faced hammer with beveled edge with a straight spur, frizzen with a straight toe and the frizzen spring has a spear point tip. The forged iron rounded flash pan is not integral to the lock. Bayonet lug mounted 1 5/8 inches from the muzzle on top of the barrel. The full straight grip stock has three barrel bands and the long flutes approximately half the length of the comb, a large "VI" is deeply period carved into the left side of the buttstock, and steel buttplate. Iron ramrod with a button end.

Condition: Good with the barrel and trigger guard having a smooth mottled silver gray patina overall. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth dark patina. The forward left side plate screw is to short and will not attach to lock. The stock is good with a couple of moderate gouges on the upper left flat. Overall the stock shows scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The action is fine.
