U.S. Simeon North Model 1819 Flintlock Pistol

Estimate: $1500 - 2250
Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut between 1819 and 1823. The Model 1819 Pistol features a unique, sliding safety bolt located behind the hammer and featured the introduction of the swivel type steel ramrod. The lock plate is dated "1821" directly below the sliding safety and marked with an eagle with a "U" and "S" on either side, "S.NORTH" in a downward arc above the eagle and "MIDLTN CONN." in an upward arc below. The left side of the barrel is marked "JDJ/P/US" at the breech and the top is marked with the condemnation strike, (usually confirming original flintlock configuration as this was performed at the armories to render the weapon unserviceable). The barrel has a brass front sight blade and oval rear sight located on the barrel tang. The lock plate is beveled at the front and rounded at the rear. Mounted with a walnut stock with a "V" stamped directly behind the lock, "JT" stamped ahead of the rear lock screw on the left flat and an oval "LS" cartouche on the left flat.
BBL: 10 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 54
Finish: brown
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Very good, in original flintlock configuration. The metal surfaces have a mottled grayish brown patina with some flash pitting on the breech end of the barrel. The stock has been sanded some time ago and is a little undersized, and remains very good with a couple of small minor cracks, a few minor dings and readable cartouche. The lock markings are clear. The ramrod swivel is a crude replacement. The action is fine.
