Estimate: $1200 - 1700
U.S. Model 1819 Flintlock Pistol manufactured by Simeon North in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1821. Simeon North manufactured 20,400 Model 1819 Flintlock Pistols between 1819 and 1823. The pistol has a round smoothbore barrel with swivel-mounted iron ramrod. The barrel has a brass front sight blade and an oval rear sight is integral with the tang. The barrel band has a distinctive lower lip and is secured by a spring. The barrel band, side plate, trigger guard and buttcap are iron. The lock plate has a rounded rear and beveled front edge and is fitted with a sliding bar safety, reinforced hammer and removable brass pan. The stock is oil-finished black walnut. The lock plate is dated "1821" below the bar safety. The lock plate is stamped with an eagle and shield motif with the letters "U" and "S" separated by the eagle. "S. NORTH" is stamped in an arch above the eagle and "MIDLTN CONN" is stamped in an arch below it. The Ordnance inspection and proof marks, "JDJ/P/US" are stamped on the top of the barrel parallel to the axis of the bore.
