U. S. Naval officers sword with scabbard, makers name I. Bernstein by Bernstein, Brooklyn, NY with custom period etched blade; one side shows name "Earl Roof Shipp" with fancy etched anchor chains, naval motifs,symbol for U.S. Naval Academy, ships and USN. The reverse is also beautifully etched with an eagle, crossed swords, officers star and the words "commissioned January 31, 1907" a ship's wheel, USS Louisiana. The blade is in very good+ to near fine condition showing its original polish most of its etching some slight erosion and a small amount of pitting and natural aging. The scabbard mounts and grip are all in very good uncleaned condition and original hanger and sword knot are included. The throat of the scabbard is fancily engraved with three intertwined initials "ERS". It would be interesting to further research this officer and his career. Est.: $1,500-$3,000
