U.S. Naval cutlass by Ames dated 1842, in original good condition, “Ship #7” period engraved on front of brass guard and “195” stamped on interior of guard. Our consignor’s research indicates possible carry and useaboard the USS constitution, but we were unable to find research to verify this as a fact. The blade shows a dark brown patina finish, scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting, the USN and date are visiblebut slightly light, the Ames markings are visible but slightly light, the blade shows a good patina with some dings, normal wear and use, and is slightly worn around the pommel where the eagle is cast. A good originalcutlass that may be further researchable to ship of issuance. Est: $600 - $1,200
