This is a pre-war issue U.S. Model 1903 Springfield rifle as manufactured in 1915. The rifle has the standard Springfield Armory receiver markings over serial number "608615". The barrel is marked "SA-6-15" over the Ordnance ''Shell & Flame'' insignia. The underside of the bolt safety lug is stamped with the steel lot code "8 I" reading toward the face of the bolt. The rifle has the correct one-bolt, pre-war "S" stock with grasping grooves and ''high hump'' handguard with rear sight relief cut and spring clips. The stock is stamped with a boxed "J.S.A." cartouche with a single circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area and it is fitted with the fine checkered buttplate. It is fitted with the correct pattern milled components, trigger guard, floor plate and barrel bands. The leaf sight has a bright face with the 2,850 yard volley notch on top. It has the second pattern rear sight elevation binding screw and it is fitted with the third pattern rear sight windage screw with the concave face and no groove in the knurl. The trigger is serrated with cross-hatching at the tip. The magazine cut-off and safety lock have the block letter markings used on Model 1903 rifles manufactured at Springfield Armory after 1914. It is complete with one Kerr-No Buckle canvas sling.

Condition: Excellent with 90% of the original blue finish remaining with edge and high spot wear on the receiver and barrel with blue loss on the trigger guard, floorplate and upper barrel band. The stock and hand guard are both near excellent with a nice matching color overall with clear sharp cartouches with some minor handling makers on the sides of the stock. The sling is excellent. An excellent example of an early Model 1903 Springfield rifle.
