U.S. Model 1861, .58 caliber rifled musket dated 1862 on the lock remaining in good condition. The metal surfaces show a light gray to brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting and some cleaning andre-coloring on the barrel (minor restoration). The lock plate shows good markings and 75% of the Eagle stamp. The stock is good with some minor losses along the ramrod channel, a couple of dings, mars, scratches, light cleaning and sanding with a small area of repair and replacement of wood around the lock area (minor wood restoration). The stock shows two mostly visible original cartouches. The original swivels, sights and small parts are all retained. The nipple is an old replacement. The action is good and the bore shows some firing. The rifling is shallow and an original ramrod is retained. William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $900-$1800
