Also known as the "Side Lever Hall", Simeon North manufactured approximately 1,800 of these carbines in 1848, with a total production run of approximately 10,000. The top of the breech block is marked "U.S./S.NORTH/MIDLtn/CONN./1848", there is a "JH" on the right side of the breech end of the barrel, a sharp "WAT" cartouche on the right stock flat and a sharp "LH" cartouche on the left stock flat. The carbine has the breech block thumb lever on the right side of the receiver and extended sling bar and ring on the opposite side. Button head iron cleaning rod and mounted with a smooth one-piece full straight grip stock, secured by two barrel bands and smooth flat iron buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The carbine retains 60% plus thinning original brown lacquer with scattered light surface rust overall. The breech block retains 50% original case colors with a patch of minor pitting behind the hammer. The stock is excellent with some scattered minor storage dings and a few minor gouges.
