U.S. Model 1842, .54 caliber single shot Martial pistol by Palmetto Armory of Columbia, South Carolina, dated 1852 with “Wm. Glaze & Co.” markings on the left side of the breech. The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina with somescattered light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion with the heaviest pitting is occurring on the breech end of the barrel and the tang. There has been some cleaning of the rust which is now aging back on the hammer and bolster along withthe top edge of the lock. The Armory marking with Palmetto tree is clear, legible and absolutely genuine. The ramrod and swivel are well-made correct style replacements. The stock is good with some darkening, oil staining, minor cracks andnormal imperfections. The action works well. One of approximately 1000 produced and considered a secondary Confederate side arm (Refer Flayderman 6A –043). The William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $3,000-$6,000
