U.S. Model 1795 type 1, .69 caliber smoothbore musket by Springfield Armory showing Springfield in curve at area behind hammer showing features of manufacture pre-1798 with South Carolina marking at the rear of the breech. The lock shows afaceted iron pan and the bayonet stud is 5/8” from the front of the muzzle (Refer Flayderman 9A-005). The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina finish with scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion with some slightly heavypitting underneath the pan and at the breech end of the barrel. The stock shows well done restoration to the forend in front of the band where the wood is replaced. The butt plate shows heavy pitting with light cleaning and the triggerguard shows a like condition. The musket shows some replaced screws and minor restorations. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration with correct parts. An original type ramrod is included. South Carolina marked 1795 flintlockmuskets were in Armories and were pressed into service by Confederate forces at the beginning of the Civil War. Wiliam A. Gary consigned by his estate.
