Manufactured by Lamson, Goodnow & Yale of Windsor, Vermont, from 1862 to 1864 with approximately 50,000 produced. The lock plate is dated 1863 and marked with the eagle/U.S. motif followed by "L.G-GY./WINDSOR-VT" ahead of the hammer. The barrel is also dated 1863 and is stamped with "V/P/eagle head" proofs on the upper left flat with the letter "C" on the left flat. It has the correct bayonet lug/blade sight and a three leaf rear sight with the base marked with a small letter "A". The bolster is stamped with an eagle/shield motif and the barrel bands are marked with the letter "U". Smooth stock stamped with a faint cartouche on the left flat, two piece trigger guard marked with two small letter "G"s, and "US/A" marked buttplate tang. The right side of the buttstock is stamped with the numbers "17" and "36". Included is the iron ramrod with tulip shaped end and wooden muzzle plug.
