One of 8000 Model 1864 Joslyn breech loading carbines purchased by the U.S. government from the Joslyn Fire Arms Company of Stonington, Connecticut. This example has an anchor stamped on the stock in front of the trigger guard and has a .58 caliber barrel. Only 1300 were made in .58 caliber and numbered from 15000 to 16300. Has the hooded firing pin that distinguish the Model 1864 Carbine from the brass mounted Model 1862 Carbine. Blade front and three-leaf rear sights. Lock plate has the two line address over "1864" and the rear of the breechblock has the 1861/1862 patent marking. Breechblock is numbered to gun. Smooth one piece straight grip stock with saddle ring and bar on the left side and "US" marked buttplate.

Condition: Completely refinished. The carbine retains most of the brown finish overall. The lightly sanded, revarnished stock has a wood filled repair on the right side, some wood missing around the front band, and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
