Marked "US / I.N. JOHNSON" on the lock plate in front of the hammer, "MIDDTN / CONN / 1854" vertically at the rear. The tang is not dated and the breech end of the barrel is marked "US /JII /V". The left rear flat is marked "STEEL H". Brass mountings, brass blade front sight, swivel type steel ramrod with a button head and mounted with a one piece double cartouche walnut stock with a boxed four letter "RHKW" and "JK" cartouches on the left flat. Approximately 10,000 were produced from 1853 to 1855.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has been cleaned and now a smooth silver gray patina. The lock and hammer have a smooth dark patina. The brass has been polished at some time and is beginning to age. The stock is very good with a small chip at the buttcap and overall some minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
