U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1842 Percussion Rifled Musket with Long Range Sight, Bayonet and Minnesota Infantry Medallion

Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with "1854" and "131" on the tang, "V/P/eagle head" on the upper left side of the breech, "HARPERS/FERRY/1854" and "131" on the lock behind the hammer and "eagle/US" below the bolster. Smooth stock, with a trumpet-head ramrod, steel furniture, and a flat buttplate marked "US" on the heel. With a triangular "U.S." spike bayonet, 20 1/2 inches overall with a 17 3/4 inch blade, and a silver finished medallion marked "Wm. M./BOSLEY./CoB 10t/MINN. INF./WAR 1861-5" over a cross. The 10th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry was active from 1862 to 1865, chiefly operating against Native American tribes. The dates suggest William Bosley saw service with another unit before joining the 10th.

Very good plus, with scattered pitting and handling marks on the arsenal bright steel. Stock is very good, with some dents and scratches overall, and mild cracking at the buttplate. Bayonet is very good, with minor spotting and handling marks. The medal is good, with a deep black patina in the low areas and well aged brass visible on the high edges. Mechanically very good.
