U.S. Distinguished Marksman suspension medal in riker case with original cabinet photo showing U.S. Army officer in uniform wearing this medal and others and signed on the back “Your Arizona friend, Frank DeW. Ramsey, Oct. 5-1892” with additional penciled notes “we knew him at Fort Whipple, Prescott, Ariz. Frank DeWitt Ramsey, F. de W. Ramsey, 2d Lt. USA rec’d distinguished Marksman Badge in 1890, 9th U.S. Infantry”. Both the medal and the cabinet photo are in overall very good to fine condition; the medal is the first pattern variation with the oval target and is solid gold; it is stamped “R.I.A.” (Rock Island Arsenal) on the back of the top barand “83” at the center of the back of the suspended shield. A really nice set of U.S. militaria that deserves further research as to service record of Lt. Ramsey and the occasion of his award of this shooting medal. Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
