U.S. Dept. of Ag. Smokey The Bear Fire Posters (3)
For your consideration are three U.S. Department of Agriculture fire safety posters presented by the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters Division of Forest Protection circa 1954-1962. The first poster, from 1961, shows a man fishing with his son as his wife watches from afar. The son is holding up a fish he has just caught as the father looks at him and smiles. The top reads, "You have so many reasons to protect your forests" while the bottom reads, "Remember - Only YOU can prevent forest fires". In the bottom left it shows Smokey the Bear wearing his iconic "Smokey" hat as he looks towards the viewer. This poster shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use, but no signs of obvious damage are noted. The second poster, from 1962, shows Smokey the Bear, along with various other animals, kneeling and praying in front of Smokey's hat and a shovel. The bottom reads, "...and PLEASE make people more careful / Only you can prevent forest fires!" in black and red lettering. This poster shows good condition overall with some wear and staining present but no signs of obvious damage is noted. The third and final poster in this lot, from 1954, shows Smokey the Bear and two smaller bear cubs hanging around a large board nailed to a tree. The board reads, "Break your matches / Crush your smokes / Drown your campfires / Be careful with every fire / Remember - Only YOU can prevent forest fires". The top of the poster reads, "Good Outdoor habits for everyone!" in white lettering. This poster shows fair condition as there is wear and staining present, as well as a small tear on the bottom. The posters measure 18 1/2" L x 13" W.
