Manufactured in 1874 with the barrel subsequently shortened to its current length. The revolver has an added half moon blade front sight with the top of the barrel having the one line Hartford address and the left side of the frame marked with the two line patent dates (1871, 1872) next to "U.S." A small letter "P" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the cylinder pin and on the rear of the cylinder. The ejector rod has the early "bulls eye" style. Matching serial number on the frame and grip straps with the assembly number "165" on the loading gate. All nickel finish with a smooth walnut one piece grip. Consignor states this U.S. Colt Single Action Army was bought off of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
